Understanding Basketball Betting Markets at 789ph
Moneyline — The Simplest Bet
The moneyline is the most straightforward basketball bet — you're simply picking which team wins the game. If San Miguel Beermen are priced at 1.65 on 789ph to beat TNT, a ₱500 bet returns ₱825 total if SMB wins. No point spreads, no conditions — just pick the winner. This is where most new bettors start and it remains popular with experienced bettors for games with clear favourites.
Point Spread — Betting the Margin
In a spread bet, the favourite must win by more than the spread, and the underdog must lose by less (or win outright). For example, if Ginebra is -6.5 against Rain or Shine, Ginebra must win by 7 or more for a Ginebra spread bet to cash. This is great for heavy-favourite games where the moneyline odds are too low to offer real value.
Total Over/Under — Points on the Board
The total bet is about the combined score of both teams. If 789ph sets the total at 195.5 for a PBA game and you bet the over, the two teams must score 196 or more combined points for your bet to win. This market is particularly interesting in UAAP games where defensive-minded teams like NU tend to keep scores lower than the PBA average.
Quarter and Half Betting
789ph offers markets on individual quarters and halves — who leads after Q1, what is the total score in the first half, which team scores more in Q3. These markets are particularly useful for live in-play betting because you can analyse the pace and momentum of a game and bet on shorter windows rather than the full 40-minute outcome.
Player Props — Going Deeper
Player props let you bet on individual performances. On PBA games, 789ph offers points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks over/under lines on the major contributors of each team. On NBA games, the prop menu expands even further. Following a specific player's form, injury history, and matchup quality can help you find real value in these markets that general bettors often overlook.
Basketball Betting Tips for Filipino Fans
Know the PBA Schedule Format
The PBA plays three conferences per year — Governors', Commissioner's, and Philippine Cup. Teams prioritise differently across conferences — some rest stars in early Governors' Cup games to peak for the Finals. Factor this into your betting decisions on 789ph.
UAAP Home Court Matters
UAAP games played at the Araneta Coliseum often feel like home games for Ateneo and La Salle due to their large alumni bases. This crowd factor is real and affects performance — account for it when betting on neutral-venue games.
Gilas Import Rule Changes
When Gilas Pilipinas is allowed to bring naturalized players for FIBA events, the team's level jumps significantly. Check the roster before betting — a Gilas team with Ange Kouame and Justin Brownlee on the floor is a very different proposition from an all-local lineup.
Line Movement on 789ph
If the PBA spread moves from -4.5 to -7.0 in the hours before tip-off on 789ph, it often means informed money is coming in on the favourite. Track line movement — it's one of the most useful signals available to recreational bettors.
